Bode eyes attorney general race

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Corporation Commission Chairman Denise Bode has taken the first step toward running for the Republican nomination for attorney general.

Bode announced Wednesday that she has filed papers with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission establishing an exploratory committee that will allow her to raise funds for a campaign.

``This filing represents my very serious interest in asking Oklahomans to be their attorney,'' she said.

Democrat Drew Edmondson is expected to seek a third four-year term.

Prior to her election to the Corporation Commission, Bode was president of the Independent Petroleum Association of America.

She previously was legal counsel to U.S. Sen. David L. Boren, now president of the University of Oklahoma.

Bode, 47, received a juris doctorate from George Mason Univesrity and a masters of law degree from Georgetown University.

Larry Nichols, chief operating officer of Devon Energy is chairman of Bode's exploratory committree. G. T. Blankenship, former attorney general, is treasurer.
