He is known in Tulsa as one of the greatest football coaches in the history of McLain High School. And Friday, he was honored by a ceremony renaming the football stadium there "Melvin D. Driver Stadium".

The auditorium of the school, now called Tulsa High School for Science and Arts, was filled Friday morning with former students, coaches, and friends of Driver. Driver came to McLain High in 1977 where he not only coached football and track, but taught math as well.

Driver retired in 1997.
