A Boy Scout salutes what he calls 'heat wave heroes' Saturday, although we think the Boy Scout also deserves some praise. He is 14-year-old Tony Hughes and he’s working toward the rank of Eagle.

For his service project, he helped organize a blood drive with the American Red Cross in Broken Arrow. And, the turnout was good. Anthony says the donors are 'heat wave heroes' because they came out despite the hot weather. He said it figured summer was the perfect time for the blood drive. "Had just remembered hearing somewhere that during the summer, blood is in pretty short supply and I figured that would help people a lot."

Tony is a 9th grader at Union Intermediate High School.
