OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater will play host to the 2002 Class 6A and 5A state basketball championship games.
The state tournaments, set for March 7-9, originally were scheduled to be played at Reynolds Center in Tulsa. But a move became necessary when the University of Tulsa landed the Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament the same week.
``We were in a bind because we had no place to play,'' said Danny Rennels, executive secretary of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association.
Winding up at Gallagher-Iba Arena, he said, was a ``great solution.''
``It's going to be a good situation for the kids and the teams.''
Although the schedules are tentative, Rennels said the plan is to have the 6A boys tournament at Gallagher-Iba all three days. Class 6A girls would be ``perhaps at a site in Edmond'' on Thursday and then move to Gallagher-Iba on Friday and Saturday.
The 5A boys tournament would be at a site in Norman or south Oklahoma City on Thursday, then move to Lloyd Noble Center in Norman on Friday and Gallagher-Iba on Saturday.
Class 5A girls would be at Lloyd Noble on Thursday and Friday before moving to Gallagher-Iba on Saturday.
