BOSTON (AP) _ Promoter Don King hopes to set an October date for the heavyweight title fight between John Ruiz and Evander Holyfield, postponed when Ruiz injured his neck.

``I can express full confidence that the fight is on in China,'' King said in a statement issued in Beijing.

The fight for Ruiz's World Boxing Association title was scheduled for Saturday, and King is hoping that it now can be held Oct. 6 or Oct. 20, The Boston Globe reported Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Globe said Ruiz, who lives in suburban Chelsea, was to fly from Boston to Las Vegas on Wednesday to continue receiving treatment on his neck, while training for the fight.

Ruiz was diagnosed last Friday with a herniation of the fifth and sixth vertebrae.

The fight will be the third between Ruiz and Holyfield for the WBA title. Ruiz became champion by outpointing Holyfield on March 3.

Other major heavyweight fights _ including the 1974 George Foreman-Muhammad Ali bout in Zaire known as the ``Rumble in the Jungle'' and a previous Ruiz-Holyfield match _ have been postponed because of injury and later held.

Shortly after the latest fight was postponed, Ruiz assured China that he'd be back to fight another day _ when he was at 100 percent.

``I'm right now at 50. I couldn't put on the show I would love to put on,'' Ruiz said. ``I will come back and show you the fight that didn't happen. It's going to be a great show.''
