The summer heat can test the patience of drivers and the power of a car's air conditioning. Slow traffic doesn't help - because car air conditioners work best when the car is moving.
This time of year people bring their cars in to find out why the air isn't working - but the best prevention comes in the winter, when it's important to occasionally run the air. Billy Conatzer, Firestone Mechanic: "But if it just sits there, the seals and O rings will dry out and it will start to leak, that is the big thing coming into spring and summer they'll be low and a lot of times you can charge them up and they'll be good all summer, and it sits over winter and needs more next summer."
A basic check of the system and a recharge costs about $150.
