DALLAS (AP) _ Someone illegally accessed credit card accounts at Anacom Communications Inc., an online credit card processing company, according to officials at Anacom's parent company.

The security breach was announced Wednesday by officials at Internet security company ZixIt Corp.

``At this stage, we have not determined the extent of the potential damage, but we have taken all appropriate steps to prevent further access to customer data,'' said ZixIt President and Chief Executive Officer David Cook.

ZixIt management has notified credit card companies of customers' accounts that may have been improperly accessed.

The security breach at Anacom was reported Monday. ZixIt blocked access to the transaction processing system and contacted the FBI.

``We are working closely with law enforcement officials to determine what happened and who was responsible for the unauthorized network access,'' Cook said.
