(Tulsa-AP) -- Tulsa philanthropist Henry Zarrow is matching donations to help the city's struggling school district and may spend a million dollars before he's through.
That's the limit he's set on how much he'll match. In just two weeks Zarrow has kept up with $231,000 in contributions.
The Tulsa school district has cut back to adjust for a $2-million deficit this year. That means employees are taking unpaid leave, classes are larger and students are walking farther to catch school buses.
Zarrow says he became aware of how badly Tulsa schools needed money when his daughter volunteered at the district's library system.
Zarrow graduated from Tulsa public schools before making his money in the oil-field supply business.
