(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma City Public Schools superintendent Bill Weitzel announced Tuesday he will step down from the post on January 31st.
Weitzel says the decision is a personal one made after talking with family and friends.
He says the new superintendent will face challenges, including financial shortfalls and the possibility of layoffs.
The school board will discuss the search for a new superintendent during its meeting on Monday.
