(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State officials are discussing whether to consolidate services for senior citizens under a new Oklahoma Department of Aging.

The department would have its own Cabinet-level administrator.

Many services for senior citizens now fall under control of the state Health Department, the Human Services Department and the Health Care Authority.

The Oklahoma Alliance on Aging is surveying more than 500 members across the state next week about the proposal.

Opponents say Oklahoma doesn't need money to create another level of government.

Services that could be operated by the agency include adult day-care centers and nursing home complaint investigations.
