One man is dead and five Tulsa Police officers wounded in a shooting in east Tulsa.
It happened early Sunday at 9144 East 3rd Place. Police say 44-year-old Benito Hernandez threatened to kill his estranged wife's boyfriend. The couple left. And officers arrived to find Hernandez waving a 12-gauge shotgun.
Officers surrounded the house when Hernandez ran out the back door and started shooting at police. Five officers in all were hit with pellets. Among them, officer Darren Bristow who was struck in the face, arms and shoulders.
Hernandez then ran back into the house where he stayed for an hour before coming back out. Tulsa Police Sgt Wayne Allen, "He refused to comply with the commands of the officers at the time and raised his shotgun, fired several additional shots in the area of officers and they returned fire.â€
Hernandez was killed instantly.
All of the officers were treated at local hospitals and released.
