(Oklahoma City-AP) -- More than 500 members of the Oklahoma Army National Guard will go to the Sinai Peninsula in Israel early next year.
Members of the First Battalion, 180th Infantry will be sent to the region in early January and spend six months there.
The soldiers will spend six months in the Middle East. They'll support peacekeeping forces as part of the 1978 Camp David Accords and the 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.
The soldiers will first report to Fort Carson, Colorado for two months of specialized training.
The infantry is headquartered in Durant with units in Ada, Atoka, Edmond, Idabel, McAlester, Poteau, Sallisaw and Shawnee.
