(McAlester-AP) -- Funeral services are to be Wednesday for Agnes Stipe, a long-time McAlester community volunteer and the wife of state Senator Gene Stipe.

Agnes Stipe died yesterday following a long illness. She was 82.

Stipe was a native of Pocasset (poh-CASS'-ut) and managed a retail store in McAlester for 25 years.

She became known for her volunteer work, including work with deaf Oklahomans.

She and Senator Stipe married in 1949. He was at her side when she died in McAlester hospital.

The funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at First Baptist Church in McAlester.
