AMES, Iowa (AP) _ Seneca Wallace and Iowa State have shifted the balance of power in the Big 12 North.

Wallace scored two touchdowns and passed for another and Adam Benike kicked three field goals as the 19th-ranked Cyclones added to Nebraska's woes with a 36-14 win over the 20th-ranked Cornhuskers on Saturday.

Iowa State beat Nebraska for the first time since 1992 and ended the Cornhuskers' winning streak in conference openers at 27. It was Iowa State's first victory over a ranked team since 1993.

For Nebraska, the loss came two weeks after a numbing 40-7 setback to Penn State and is sure to turn up the heat on fourth-year coach Frank Solich, whose team has lost four of its last seven. The Cornhuskers also could fall out of the AP Top 25 for the first time since 1981, ending a run 348 straight appearances.

Iowa St.: 5-1, 2-0 Big 12. Nebraska: 3-2, 1-0.

COLUMBIA, Mo (AP) _ Freshman Brad Smith threw for 213 yards, ran for another 137 and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Missouri past Troy State 44-7 Saturday.

Zack Abron rushed for 98 yards and also scored twice for Missouri, and R. J. Jones tied a school record with three interceptions. The Tigers held the Trojans to their lowest point and offensive yardage totals of the season.

Smith went 3-of-3 for 60 yards on the Tigers' first drive, which he capped with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Thomson Omboga.

He later moved Missouri ahead 21-0 with a 28-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-1 in the second quarter, stumbling around the line's left side and past the Trojans' defense.

Smith finished his day going 18-of-34 before Kirk Farmer replaced him midway through the fourth quarter.

Missouri: 3-1 Big 12. Troy St. 1-4.

Whittemore rushed for 177 yards and threw for 218 more on 18 of 31 passing in the first meeting between the two teams since 1992. Brandon Rideau had 5 catches for 93 yards.

The Sooners, who were idle last week, punted on their first four possessions before Perkins got them going with his punt return 4 minutes into the second quarter. He wound up with 150 yards on six returns.

Hybl added his TD passes later in the quarter, each time after South Florida turnovers. The Bulls lost two of their three fumbles, had a pass intercepted and were penalized 15 times for 124 yards.

The punt return by Perkins, who also caused a fumble and made an interception, came after South Florida had a trick-play touchdown wiped out by penalty.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Chris Simms passed for 176 yards and two short touchdowns, and Selvin Young had two short TD runs after returning a punt 71 yards for a score in second-ranked Texas' 49-0 victory over Tulane on Saturday.

Cedric Benson added 88 yards and a 15-yard touchdown for the Longhorns, who handed Tulane its first shutout since 1995, when the Green Wave lost to Southern Miss 45-0.

Simms completed 17 of 31 passes but seemed out of sync on several drives, and he was intercepted once. He didn't play after teammate Cedric Griffith returned a blocked field goal 56 yards for a touchdown that made it 35-0.

Young followed with TD runs of 2 and 3 yards in place of Benson. Texas coach Mack Brown said he wanted to rest Brown, who had carried the ball a combined 68 times his previous two games. He has 505 yards and five TDs in four games.
