They take time out to deliver food to people who might not get it any other way. They're Tulsa's Meals on Wheels volunteers.
But as News On Six reporter Ashili Sims found out there is not enough of them to go around.
Nancy St. Clair has called on people like that for almost 12 years. Now her load's a little heavier and her route is a little longer. But she says she loves volunteering with meals on wheels.
"It's getting out into the neighborhood for my church it makes me feel good to do it . I feel like I'm contributing something to our city by taking food to people who need it." The St. Clair's make dozens of stops delivering dozens of meals. But the eastern branch of The program needs more wheels to make sure Tulsa's seniors get fed.
St. Clair says, "I think we need to start a new route we have people waiting to get their meals... Our route is pretty big and most everybody else's route is pretty big."
To trim current routes and get food to seniors on the waiting list they need at least 9 pairs of drivers.
Meals On Wheels delivers more than 4,000 means per week to the hounbound.
At least eight people in East Tulsa are on the waiting list.
