(Poteau-AP) -- The Oklahoma attorney general wants a trial for Le Flore County officials who're keeping a jail open despite numerous safety violations.
The state ordered the jail to close in March but Le Flore County has gotten the order stayed.
County commissioners voted yesterday to halt a November election on a sales tax that would fund a new jail. County officials say they want to present another idea that they think would get more public support.
Joe McCormick of the AG's office says Le Flore County has been dragging its heels for two years and it's time for the state to do something.
The jail in Poteau has routinely been cited for crowding, fire code violations and health problems.
