(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Democratic nominee for Congress in the Fourth Congressional District says he has a commitment from the national Democratic Party.
But a spokeswoman for the national party stops short of making promises for the campaign of Democrat Darryl Roberts
Kim Rubey of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee says the race between Roberts and Republican Tom Cole is one to be watched closely.
Roberts says he received a commitment from the Democratic committee before filing for office. He says he plans a trip to Washington soon to talk with key party officials.
Republican officials are promising any help Cole may need.
The winner of the race between Roberts and Cole will replace Republican Congressman JC Watts, who did not run for re-election.
A shift of six seats would give Democrats control of the US House for the first time since 1995.
