A soccer goal for Tulsa. A major league option that could kick off as soon as 2005.

But it hinges on fast action, off the field. Tulsa is in the running for a new major league soccer team that most likely would go to either Tulsa or Edmond. The town that can build a stadium first - will be the town that gets the team.

Representatives of the league - and interested team owners - met with the mayor Thursday to discuss what the league needs - what the team wants - and what the city can do to make it all happen. Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune, "The process is at the point now that Tulsa as a community needs to make a commitment to the league that it's willing to build a facility, a stadium to house and be appropriate for a major league soccer franchise.â€

The mayor says the interest in youth soccer - and the growing number of immigrants who love the game - can help Tulsa win a team.
