The struggles over severance pay for WorldCom employees continue.
As we reported a week ago, WorldCom failed to give any severance pay to its most recent group of laid off workers. That’s because the company had since gone bankrupt.
The company has been given permission from the bankruptcy court to give each worker about $4,600. Some former employees say that's not nearly what some of them were promised. "I was a little frustrated to see it portrayed so positively, yes I mean to keep it in context it will provide some immediate relief and yes it will help some people. Somebody could have been there one year and gotten this amount and somebody could have been there 17 years and gotten the same amount."
There's still no word on when the severance money from WorldCom will be paid. In addition, the state says it will pay unemployment benefits to the laid off workers.
