Thursday has been declared an Ozone Alert day in the Tulsa metropolitan area. It's the fifth Ozone Alert day this year, that the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has issued.
Tulsa officials are encouraging residents to gas up their vehicles in the evening and to refrain from mowing their lawns with gas-powered mowers.
Motorists also are asked to catch a bus instead of commuting to work. The ride is free on Ozone Alert days.
There are an average of 12 Ozone Alert days a year in Oklahoma. Most happen between July 1st and September 14th.
