We reported this week; the city of McAlester is facing a $10,000 fine from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality over water quality.

Now, The News On Six has learned the city is disputing the fine and several allegations made by the DEQ. McAlester's mayor says the city has set aside money to fix some of the problems, and believes the DEQ is alarming citizens unnecessarily.

The city will decide how to handle the situation after a council meeting next week.
