(Dallas-AP) -- The Dallas Cowboys reportedly are interested in extending their Texas Stadium lease beyond 2008.
The Dallas Morning News reports that's the word the Irving City Council has gotten from city staff.
City Manager Steve McCullough says city and Cowboys officials have discussed year-to-year extensions of the lease, which is set to expire in 2008.
Team officials are declining comment. Team owner Jerry Jones has said the Cowboys could leave the city-owned stadium as early as 2006 and might buy out the remaining years of its lease. He's been pushing for an 80-thousand-seat stadium for the Cowboys.
Irving officials have favored renovating the 30-year-old, 66-thousand-seat stadium and its surroundings. The team also has tried to interest Arlington and Grapevine in building a new stadium.
