(Cleveland-AP) -- The Cleveland Indians won their ninth straight game and matched their best start tonight with a 3-to-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

Jim Thome and Omar Vizquel each homered for the second straight game as the Indians improved to 10-and-1. They have tied their fastest start in the club's 102-year history.

Cleveland also opened the 1959 and 1966 seasons at 10-and-1.

C.C. Sabathia used a nasty curveball that seemed to surprise the Royals. He allowed five singles and walked four.

The Indians won despite getting just five hits and making two errors.

Sabathia continues an impressive run by Cleveland's starters, who raised their record to 10-and-0 with a three-19 earned run average.
