(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Former assistant Oklahoma City fire chief Jon Hansen looks forward to the opportunity to promote fire safety across the United States.

Hansen has been nominated by President Bush to head the U-S Fire Administration.

His confirmation hearing is in a month.

Hansen is a 26 year veteran of the fire department, but recently left to pursue private fire safety endeavors.

He says his goals will be to promote fire prevention.

Hansen says the U-S has one of the highest fire death rates in the world. He says he will work to lower the death rate of citizens and firefighters.
