(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A staff study for the state Senate says the average prison sentences in Oklahoma are longer than the national average.
The study of sentences ranging from rape to drug possession finds large disparities in some cases.
The national average prison sentence for rape is just over 13-years, in Oklahoma the average is nearly 23-years. For aggravated assault the national average sentence is about six-and-a-half-years while in the state the average is more than 12-years.
A robbery conviction in Oklahoma will draw an average sentence of 21-and-a-half years while nationally the average is just under ten years.
