LONDON (AP) _ The U.S. dollar was mixed Friday against most other major currencies in European trading, falling against the euro but rising against the Japanese yen. Gold prices fell.
The euro was quoted at 93.57 cents, up from 92.89 cents late Thursday.
Other dollar rates included 118.59 Japanese yen, up from 117.35; 1.6430 Swiss francs, down from 1.6546, and 1.5465 Canadian dollars, up from 1.5456.
The British pound was quoted at $1.4652, up from $1.4544.
Based on euro rates, the dollar is worth 2.0887 German marks, down from 2.1051; 7.0051 French francs, down from 7.0601; 2.3534 Dutch guilders, down from 2.3719, and 2,067.78 Italian lire, down from 2,084.03.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $263.35 per troy ounce at midmorning, down from $265.60 on Thursday.
In Zurich the bid was $263.10, down from $266.20.
Gold fell $2.60 in Hong Kong to close at $264.25.
Silver opened in London at $4.41 per troy ounce, down from $4.43.
