Some locals are leaving this cold weather behind and heading to Cancun.

It will take them a little longer than normal because they're taking their home built planes. Four pilots from Tulsa are preparing to leave for Mexico on Monday.

The flight will take a three to four days with several stops on the way. In Monterrey, Mexico, the planes will meet up with 17 other small planes and they all will head on to Cancun.

One of the pilots, Tom Gutmann, is excited about this flight. â€œThis is our annual big trip we make a lot of trips around the country every year this is our big trip this is the one to remember."

The local pilots will be leaving out of Gundy's Airport in Owasso.
