(Lawton) -- The torrential rains of October left several families in the Lawton area homeless. They had no idea then that they would still be homeless nearly four months later.
Local minister Roy Young says 72 families were forced from their homes in nearby Apache and Meers. Young says the immediate needs of food and clothing were met and that media reports helped bring financial donations.
But he says ice storms then devastated parts of the state and the area around Lawton was put on the back burner.
Young says what is needed now is basic reconstruction items to make the homes of the displaced families safe and livable. He says about 75-thousand dollars have been donated, but about 125-thousand dollars more is needed to assist all the families.
