Winds do $5 million in damage

LAKE TEXOMA, Okla. (AP) -- A storm that killed a man at Lake Texoma last week did at least $5 million worth of damage, authorities said.

Catfish Bay Marina was especially hard hit by the straight-line winds.

"There were seven or eight major boathouses that were destroyed," said Donny Raley, director of civil emergency management in Marshall County. "There are approximately 100 boat slips that were damaged, and possibly as many as 100 boats, maybe more."

The boats cost anywhere from $200,000 to $500,000.

"They are yachts, is what they are," Raley said.

The $5 million estimate is based on destruction to the marina itself, he said. The final cost will be tallied after the marina's owner determines how many boats were damaged.

All the damage reported in Marshall County was confined within Lake Texoma State Resort Park, where two cabins, two vans and a tourist train either were damaged or destroyed, he said.

In Bryan County, the storm demolished four mobile homes and destroyed or damaged eight or nine barns, said Tim Cooke, civil emergency management director for the county and the city of Durant.

"We haven't finished assessing how much damage. It was a lot,"

he said.

The state medical examiner hasn't released a report about the death of Clifford Eugene Sexton, who was in his cabana when the storm hit about 2 a.m. Friday.
