(Coweta-AP) -- A former police officer in Coweta faces misdemeanor drug charges.

Sherman Keith Long was arrested last week during a traffic stop in Broken Arrow. Long is accused of possessing marijuana -- drugs he allegedly confiscated while a police officer.

Police officers say they found drug paraphernalia in Long's car and 28 grams of marijuana in his sweat pants.

A police report says Long indicated to the officers that the items had been confiscated earlier and he hadn't thrown them away yet. Long resigned as a sergeant from the Coweta Police Department.

Long was initially arrested on a felony complaint of possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute. But records indicate he was charged only with three misdemeanors.
