SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) -- A Creek County girl died late Monday in a mobile home fire south of Sapulpa.
Authorities were investigating the cause of the blaze, which claimed the life of Brittaney Harvey. The girl was believed to be about 6 years old, said Shannon Rowland, spokeswoman for the State Fire Marshal's office.
The girl's father, 37-year-old Doug Harvey, was in critical condition Tuesday and on a respirator at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Sapulpa Fire Chief Jackie Carner said.
A woman in her mid-30s also was injured and was listed in serious condition.
Carner said Harvey was outside working on a car and the woman was indoors taking a bath when an explosion or noise occurred that apparently started the fire.
A neighbor, who was Harvey's brother-in-law, saw the fire and rushed to the house. The woman managed to escape, but Harvey went inside for the girl and was overcome with smoke and heat on the living room floor, Carner said.
The rescuer managed to pull Harvey out.
The fire started about 11:30 p.m. Rowland said the fire began in the living room/porch area, which is where girl's body was found.
