KEYES, Okla. (AP) -- An escaped Oklahoma inmate in a stolen van got so lost on the road that he called 911 and asked to be taken back to jail.

Ronald Thomas, 38, of Oklahoma City escaped from a prison work crew while serving a 12-year burglary sentence at the William S.

Key Correctional Center in desolate northwestern Oklahoma.

He stole a Department of Correction van from a worksite at a closed helium plant around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and drove 150 miles north to Garden City, Kan., where he decided to turn himself in, said Garden City Police Department Capt. Mike Utz.

Thomas called authorities from a convenience store in Garden City at 4:12 p.m.

He was promptly arrested and will now be facing additional charges of escape and stealing a vehicle.
