CINCINNATI (AP) — Procter & Gamble Co. has sold the Internet domain name flu.com, one of nearly 100 commercial names the consumer products company has put up for sale because it has no plans to use them for Web sites.

P&G officials declined to disclose the sale price Monday. The name was sold to a pharmaceutical company.

The buyer asked not to be identified, said officials at GreatDomains.com, which registers domain names and brokered the P&G sale.

A domain name is an Internet address that consists of two or more parts, separated by a period. The .com suffix represents a commercial address.

P&G has said flu.com and other sites don't fit into the company's business plans. P&G asked more than $1 million apiece for names including romantic.com, sensitive.com and beautiful.com.

P&G is based in Cincinnati and markets 300 product brands in more than 140 countries. The company has $40 billion in worldwide sales for the bookkeeping year ended June 30. Its products include Crest toothpaste, Tide detergent and Pampers disposable diapers.
