LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ Just when the Oklahoma State University Cowboys thought things couldn't get worse, they did.

Less than a week after head coach Bob Simmons was forced to resign, the Cowboys were shut out 58-0 Saturday by Texas Tech. It was OSU's worst loss since a 66-6 loss to Oklahoma in 1970.

``This is the most embarrassing moment of my college career,'' Cowboys' offensive tackle Josh Lind said. ``I am embarrassed for the fans and frustrated.''

Texas Tech wasn't sure what to expect from OSU after hearing news that Simmons was resigning, especially after OSU came close to beating Texas A&M last week before losing 21-16.

``It was important to get on them early like we did,'' Tech running back Ricky Williams said. ``I know when coach Spike Dykes announced his retirement, we came out fired up. I thought they would be the same way, but it didn't turn out that way.'' The Red Raiders upset Oklahoma in 1999's final game.

Kliff Kingsbury threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Tech posted its third shutout of the season and qualified for a bowl game.

The Red Raiders (7-4, 3-4 Big 12) got three more touchdowns courtesy of their defense on two interceptions and a blocked field goal.

``I thought this was the most complete game we've played all season,'' Tech coach Mike Leach said. ``I felt like we did well all across the board. That's the way we have to play every game.''

Tech beat Louisiana-Lafayette 26-0 and Baylor 28-0 earlier this year. It's the first time since 1949 that the Red Raiders have posted three shutouts in a season.

The Raiders led only 7-0 after the first quarter, on Kingsbury's 18-yard pass to Tim Baker.

Oklahoma State (2-7, 0-6) lined up for a 32-yard field goal attempt in the opening seconds of the second period, but Aaron Hunt blocked Seth Condley's kick, and Lawrence Flugence grabbed the ball at the 21 and ran 79 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

``We went to tie it up and they blocked the field goal. Those kinds of things have been haunting this team all year,'' Simmons said.

The Red Raiders struck for two more touchdowns in the second quarter on Kingsbury's 6-yard pass to Baker and Antwan Alexander's 45-yard interception return of a deep pass off the arm of Oklahoma State's Aso Pogi.

Tech led 28-0 at the half despite having possession for only 8:07 to 21:53 for the Cowboys.

The Red Raiders scored on each of their three possessions in the third quarter and got a fourth touchdown on Kevin Curtis' 55-yard interception return. Shaud Williams got one touchdown on a 2-yard run, Kingsbury ran 22 yards for another and capped his day with an 8-yard scoring pass to Derek Dorris.

``We caught them in a blitz, and the middle was wide open,'' Kingsbury said of his decision to run for the score. ``All I had to do was run. I was just hoping I wouldn't trip.''

Chris Birkholz kicked seven extra points and a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter as the Red Raiders scored their most points ever in a Big 12 football game.

``I never imagined that we would get beat 58-0,'' defensive tackle Zac Akin said. ``You have to hand it to Tech. They schemed us well.''

Because of their 12-game schedule, the Red Raiders needed seven victories to qualify for a post season bowl appearance. Tech ends the regular season against No. 1 Oklahoma.
