PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Vice President Al Gore interrupted a campaign appearance before 7,000 union members Saturday night to offer an impromptu prayer for a man in the audience stricken with a heart attack during the speech.

Gore was interrupted with the news of the medical emergency a few minutes into his speech to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 5. After Gore told the audience that a man had suffered a heart attack, someone called out, ``Say a prayer, brother.''

Gore then asked members of the audience to bow their heads in prayer and urged those who didn't wish to pray, ``Please, have a moment of silence.''

``Be with him as he receives the healing,'' Gore said in part. ``We ask that you would hold all of us in the palm of your hand and give the result that you would have.''

After the prayer, the volume on the speakers were turned down as medical workers continued to work.

It was unclear when the man suffered the attack. Sen. Bob Kerrey, D-Neb., who spoke before Gore, had asked if a doctor was in the house, and medical workers attended to a man about 100 feet from the stage.
