CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The first week of jury selection in former NFL player Rae Carruth's murder trial ended Friday with the seating of two more jurors.
There are now three men and two women on the panel.
Jury selection began Monday and attorneys expect it will take at least another week to select all 12 jurors.
Carruth, 26, the former wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Cherica Adams, 24. She was pregnant with his child when she was shot Nov. 16 as she sat in her car. She died a month later, but the baby boy, named Chancellor, survived.
Prosecutors contend Carruth masterminded the hit because he didn't want to pay child support.
Carruth has maintained his innocence, claiming he was miles away from the shooting and had nothing to do with its planning.
If convicted, Carruth could be sentenced to death.
