(Broken Arrow-AP) -- Sharon Toney says she was disappointed every time the phone rang and her son wasn't on the other end of the line.

But Aaron Toney, a 21-year-old third-class petty officer on the U-S-S Cole, was able to call his mother yesterday and today and tell her he was O-K.

Aaron Toney was on board the U.S. Navy destroyer when it was bombed. Seventeen sailors were killed in the explosion.

Sharon Toney says her son is fine physically, but worn out emotionally. She says he volunteered to stay behind and help repair the ship.

Aaron Toney told his parents he was toward the back of the ship when the explosion occurred. He says he suffered some cuts and bruises and his ears were hurting.
