(Tulsa-AP) -- The Tulsa Psychiatric Center will take control of the Parkside Hospital after Parkside officials unexpectedly approved the transition.

Acting Parkside Board President Ken Bailey says the decision was the quickest way to end the controversy surrounding the troubled hospital.

The future of Parkside Incorporated and its board is uncertain, but Bailey says board members will work with T-P-C officials to ensure that services to mentally ill patients go uninterrupted during the transition.

T-P-C officials say front-line employees and their jobs will not be affected by the transition. But administrative staff could be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The board also voted to accept the resignation of former Parkside executive director Paul Greever.

A recent mental health department audit cited 41 requirements that must be met if Parkside is to continue its contract with the department.
