A viewer sent an e-mail to Consumer 6 asking why some houses and businesses are boarded up along the north side of Interstate 44. The area in question is near I-44 between Yale Avenue and Sheridan Avenue.
Consumer 6 contacted the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for some answers. ODOT says it bought the houses and the buildings along that stretch of highway. The department will begin demolishing all of the buildings in January. The state will eventually expand the highway to six lanes. However, construction will not begin until January 2002. The project will take a year and a half to complete.
