Eight-year-old girl reportedly raped in Delaware County

(Jay-AP) -- Delaware County authorities say an eight-year-old girl has been admitted to a Grove hospital for treatment following a rape.

Sheriff's Sergeant Heath Linn says the girl was raped last week.

Authorities wouldn't release any details about the alleged attack or the seriousness of the girl's injuries.

Linn says the girl lives with her mother in the Grove-Grand Lake area. He said the girl had to be sedated before she could be examined.

He said the Department of Human Services and the Delaware County Special Advocacy Network are working with the sheriff's office on the case.

Authorities hope to interview the girl today. She's been unable to speak to authorities since she was hospitalized.
