Broken Arrow-AP-- A Broken Arrow animal shelter employee is retiring following allegations that he abused a kitten earlier this year.
Broken Arrow Police Chief Carolyn Kusler a disciplinary hearing had been planned but it wasn't needed with the employee's decision to retire.
Kusler says police officials allowed the civilian employee to transfer to a position at the police training center and to work long enough to take his retirement. The employee had worked for the city for about ten years.
The city didn't -- and isn't required -- to release his identity since no disciplinary action was taken.
A woman filed a complaint alleging that the employee had forced a seven-month-old kitten into an animal carrier, injuring the animal so badly it began bleeding profusely. A veterinarian had said the kitten likely suffered internal injuries.
