ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) â€” Book and music retailer Borders Group Inc. has named Edward Wilhelm as a senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective immediately.

Wilhelm, 41, will succeed Kenneth Scheve, who will retire by the end of the year, the company said in a statement Thursday.

Wilhelm had been vice president of finance for Borders Inc. since joining the company in 1994, after serving as vice president/controller with Kmart Corp.

Borders also said Timothy Hopkins has resigned as president of merchandising and distribution for personal reasons to pursue other interests.

Borders Group's subsidiary Borders Inc. operates more than 300 Borders Books and Music Stores in the United States and Puerto Rico. Borders Group also has 900 Waldenbooks stores, and an electronic commerce site â€” borders.com â€” that has access to nearly 700,000 titles and more than 10 million books, music and video items.
