(Vinita-AP) -- A Craig County sheriff's investigator has resigned in the wake of questions about his education. Sheriff George Vaughn says he asked for Charlie Cozart's resignation because Cozart couldn't produce a record of having received a general equivalency diploma.

Vaughn said certification agents with the Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training told him and Cozart that they needed an original copy of his G-E-D. They said he wouldn't be eligible for certification as a state law enforcement agent without it.

Vaughn says he's considering another job for Cozart which wouldn't require state certification.
