NEW YORK (AP) — Radio host Don Imus was hospitalized with multiple injuries after being thrown from a horse at his ranch in New Mexico.

Imus suffered five broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken collar bone and a shoulder separation after being thrown up to 10 feet off a horse, Charles McCord, a news anchor for ``Imus in the Morning,'' told listeners Monday.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon at the ranch in Ribera, N.M., near Santa Fe.

Imus, 59, is ``described in stable condition, alert and resting comfortably,'' McCord said.

Imus' talk show on WFAN in New York boasts about 10 million listeners nationwide on more than 90 stations. His program also appears on the MSNBC cable network.

``He's going to be out of commission for a little while,'' McCord said. There was no immediate word on when Imus would be able to return to his show; a person answering the phone at MSNBC had no details. Imus had been scheduled to go on vacation for the next two weeks.

``It just continues with this knucklehead, the poor guy,'' McCord told listeners, before reading the morning news.

Imus has said he is working to establish the 3,000-acre ranch as a haven for sick children.
