KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — The former Key West ``shack'' of Tennessee Williams has been sold to an Ohio couple for $1.15 million — a hefty sum that surprised the brother of the late playwright.
``Why, that was just a shack that floated over from Cuba,'' said Dakin Williams, speaking from his home in Collinsville, Ill. Williams, 80, said he bought the house for his brother in the 1940s for $27,000.
The three-bedroom, one-and-a-half story house with a guest cottage has undergone extensive renovations since Williams lived there. His one-time studio in the historic 2,100-square-foot home is now a family room.
Evan Corn, the new owner with wife Barbara, said Monday, ``We ... want everyone to know we'll continue to honor the person who once lived there.''
