(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Parents of school age children may not get a break on back-to-school clothing.

A bill that would have created a sales tax holiday was passed by the House and Senate but was referred to a joint House-Senate conference committee. Now it's mired in budget negotiations with the session clock ticking down.

Representative Danny Hilliard who authored the bill says time is not on his side.

The law says the Legislature must adjourn by 5:00 PM Friday.

Representative John Sullivan who wrote a similar bill says the people are getting no tax relief at all.

Hilliard's bill would provide for a sales tax exemption during a ten-day period each August on clothing or footwear with a sales price of less than $100 per item.
