WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, slipped out of town by Marine helicopter on Friday to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary at the Delaware shore.

Aides said the couple — with a Secret Service detail, a military aide and press aide in tow — were borrowing the beach home of campaign chairman Tony Coelho and would return to Washington on Sunday.

The Democratic presidential candidate recently promised campaign reporters, apparently without consulting his wife, that they could accompany him on vacation travels in a small press pool. White House aides notified reporters of the trip Friday afternoon — after the Gores were en route to the coast — and invited them to the area.
