(Tulsa-AP) -- Higher revenues were reported for the first-quarter for Williams Communications, although the company had a net loss.

Williams is undergoing a rapid expansion of its fiber-optic network.

The company's net loss of $121.5 million compared to a net loss of $76 million for the same period a year ago.

Unaudited first-quarter revenues were $533.4 million, compared to $502.1 million during the same period last year.

The company is in the final phase of its accelerated fiber-optic network construction. Company officials say more than 27,000 route miles were in place by the end of the quarter and more than 24,000 miles were lit and operational.
