(Tulsa-AP) -- A youth trying to elude police in a car chase also should consider himself lucky that the governor hadn't signed Senate Bill 13-83. The bill will stiffen penalties for trying to elude law officers.
Speeds reached up to 103 miles-per-hour through northeastern Oklahoma before the motorist ended up in the Verdigris River on Sunday.
If the governor had already signed the bill, the youth could have faced a fine of up to $5,000 and two years in jail.
A Keating spokesman says the governor may sign the bill today.
