Retail sales in the Tulsa MSA increased to $5.5 billion during the first 11 months of 1999, up 6.9 percent from the same period in 1998.

Total retail sales increased to $3.9 billion in the City of Tulsa (up 2.1 percent) and $21.1 billion statewide (up 7.6 percent).

In the Tulsa MSA, lumber sales accounted for the highest percentage increase at 24 percent. Other retail categories reported percentage changes since 1998 as follows:
gasoline: up 11.5 percent
furniture: up11.3 percent
general merchandise: up 11 percent
apparel: up 9.8 percent
prescription drugs: up 7.5 percent
liquor: up 7.2 percent
restaurants sales: up 4.1 percent
groceries: up 3 percent
used merchandise: up 2.1 percent
hardware: up 1.1 percent.

Computer & electronics sales declined 0.4 percent, sales of household appliances declined 0.8 percent, and auto accessory sales declined 4.6 percent.
